Data storage is one of the more touchy feely subjects in your sales process. Of course you want to make sure that all of your user-data is stored correctly, but finding a solution is not always as straightforward as one might think. Especially if you use third party software, it can be a hassle to confirm that everything is according to the rules and regulations of the area where you and your customers act.
Hubspot, for example, is used widely in the European area and stored it’s data in the US. But that got different when Hubspot opened a European data centre in the summer of 2021.
Why is this a game changer?
Hubspot's EU Data Centre might make your work life a bit easier. Data storage is a complex and essential issue in sales and partnership conversations. Your customers and partners need to know that data is stored according to the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to guarantee their (customers) privacy.
When data is stored outside of the EU, this takes a lot of extra legal hassle. Up till now, Hubspot covered transfers of customer data from the EU to the US by the Standard Contractual Clauses. With data storage in the EU, these clauses can be skipped and are subject to EU laws and regulations.
So what should you do now?

If you already use Hubspot: just sit back and relax
You won't have to migrate your data - yet. The regulatory landscape in Europe keeps on changing, but that's all covered over the American Hubspot Data Centres for now.
In 2022 EU-users can migrate their data to the European Data Centre. You'll receive a heads-up as soon as the migration planning is ready - which will be somewhere in the next couple of months.

If you start a new Hubspot account: you can also rest assured
Your data will be automatically stored in the European Data Centre of Hubspot. This might save you some explaining and checking. All your data issues are now covered automatically by European law.
Need a sanity check?
